Gran Canaria Island
Reference region S-005, part of the IOTA group AF-004, the island will be activated from time to time by 34 CI 020 Andres and 34 CI 030 Jose.
- Andres working conditions consists of a Yaesu FT-707 transceiver and a dipole antenna.
- Jose is using a Yaesu transceiver and a Solarcon vertical antenna.
About the Island
Gran Canaria is one of Spain’s Canary Islands, off the coast of northwest Africa.
It’s known for both its black lava and white sand beaches.
Its southern beaches include bustling Playa del Inglés and Puerto Rico as well as quieter Puerto de Mogán and San Agustín.
In the north, the capital city Las Palmas is a major stop for cruise ships and duty-free shopping.
The island’s interior is rural and mountainous.
